Potts Branches Out to Help Environment
When you go down to the woods today, you’re sure of a big surprise.
North East firm Potts is one of the first regional companies of its kind to become an official corporate partner of the Woodland Trust. And, as part of this, the Cramlington based print services company has dedicated an area of woodland to be conserved by the Trust.
The half-acre site is situated in Hartford Glebe, Cramlington, Northumberland, and staff at the region’s longest established printing firm can’t wait to get the project underway in the New Year.
Dan Tobin, Potts’ Sales Director said: "Our partnership with the Woodland Trust is just one example of how we are embracing environmental good practice within the company and we are looking forward to further raising awareness through these types of initiatives."
Potts - one of the region’s longest established printing firms - and one of only a handful of UK print companies to be the first to achieve the ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems (EMS) certification, is also aiming towards Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) approval in early 2007. The FSC is a system developed so forest products such as paper can be traced through the supply chain to the end consumer. The accreditation would mean that staff and customers of Potts could be assured that their products contribute towards responsible management of the world’s forests.
Dan continued: "As a long established printing firm we are obviously aware of the impact print and paper waste has on the environment and we subsequently want to do all we can to conserve our local woodland heritage. Our relationship with the Woodland Trust allows us to deliver something tangible as evidence of this commitment with the planting of new trees."
Malcolm Holmes of The Woodland Trust said: "We are very grateful to Potts for helping us in this very practical way, we have over 150,000 members, but as we save more woods we need even more supporters. On average, for every new member we recruit, we can protect and care for another half acre of native woodland. We really depend on organisations like Potts to keep up the conservations of our woods."
The Woodland Trust is the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity. By acquiring sites and campaigning for woodland, the trust aims to conserve, restore and re-establish native woodland. It currently owns and cares for over 1,000 woods, covering over 50,000 acres.
